Small Group or Private Training? How Colorado Springs Adults Should Choose

Most healthy adults over 40 get everything that actually drives results, a program written for them and a coach watching them run it, from small group personal training at a fraction of one-on-one cost. Private training earns its premium in specific cases: injury rehabilitation, highly specialized goals, or a strong preference for total privacy.

We run small group sessions at our Colorado Springs studio, so we have an obvious perspective. But the honest comparison is still worth laying out, because the right answer depends on your situation.

What do the two formats share?

More than most people expect. In both, you get an assessment before you start, a program written for your body and goals, and a professional coach responsible for your form and progression. At Alloy, every small group member runs their own program inside a 55-minute session capped at six people, progressed on a 12-week cycle with monthly InBody tracking. That is personal training; the group part only describes the room.

What do you give up in a small group?

Undivided attention. In a private session, the coach watches every second of every set. In a group of up to six, attention rotates. For complex rehabilitation work or sport-specific technique, that difference matters. For general strength, health, and body composition goals, which is what most adults over 40 are actually training for, rotating attention from a coach who knows your program is plenty.

What do you gain?

Cost and consistency. Small group sessions typically run a third to half the price of comparable private training in Colorado Springs, which means most people can afford two or three coached sessions a week instead of one. Frequency is what produces results, so the cheaper format often gets people stronger faster. There is also the room itself: training beside a handful of regulars at your own pace builds the kind of accountability a solo appointment cannot.

When should you choose one-on-one?

Choose private training if you are working through active rehabilitation with clinical constraints, preparing for a specific sport or event with technical demands, or you know yourself well enough to say the privacy is the deciding factor. Those are real reasons, and a good small group studio will tell you so.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get lost in the group? Not at six people. The cap exists precisely so the coach sees every member's every set.

Is small group training just a fitness class? No. In a class, everyone does the same workout. In small group personal training, each member follows their own program.

Can I switch formats later? Your program travels with you either way, since it is built from your assessment, not the room.
