Small group personal training means up to six members share a 55-minute session led by a professional coach, while each person follows their own individual program. It is not a class. Nobody copies a whiteboard workout, and the coach is not performing at the front of a room; they are moving between members, correcting form and adjusting weights.
That distinction confuses a lot of people shopping for training in Colorado Springs, so here is exactly how it works at our Woodmen Road studio.
What does a session actually look like?
You arrive at your booked time, warm up under the coach's direction, and work through the day's portion of your personal program. The member beside you is probably on an entirely different exercise, at a weight chosen for them, because their program answers to their body and goals rather than yours. The coach runs the floor the whole 55 minutes: watching reps, fixing positions, and deciding when you are ready for more.
How is my program built?
Everything starts with the Complimentary Starting Point Session: a goals conversation, a functional movement assessment, and an InBody body composition analysis. From that, your coach builds a program and progresses it on a structured 12-week cycle. Monthly InBody rescans confirm the program is working, and the plan adjusts when your life or your body changes.
Who is small group training for?
Our members are mostly adults 40 to 70+ across Colorado Springs: busy professionals, parents, military families, and retirees. Some are getting back to exercise after years away; others tried big-box gyms and classes that never stuck. The common thread is wanting expert eyes on their training without paying private-session rates for every visit.
Why cap it at six?
Because coaching quality collapses past that. With six people, a coach can genuinely see every rep. With fifteen or twenty, you get choreography and encouragement, which is a different product. The cap is the reason each member can run a personal program inside a group setting.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be fit before joining? No. Programs start from your current ability, and your first workout is deliberately conservative.
What if I have an injury history? That is exactly what the movement assessment is for. Your program works around your body, not despite it.
Is it social? Pleasantly so. Sessions are small enough that members and coaches know each other by name, and the studio is family-owned, which sets the tone.
How often should I come? Two or three sessions a week is the common rhythm here. Your coach recommends a number at your Starting Point Session.
