What Does an InBody Scan Tell You? A Colorado Springs Coach Explains

An InBody scan breaks your body weight into what it is actually made of: muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat, and body water. It takes about a minute, involves standing on a device and holding two handles, and produces the baseline every training decision at our studio gets measured against.

The bathroom scale gives you one number and lets you draw your own dramatic conclusions. The InBody replaces the drama with data.

What exactly does it measure?

The scan estimates skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass and percentage, visceral fat level, and total body water, segment by segment. In practice, three numbers do most of the work for our members: muscle mass, body fat percentage, and visceral fat. Together they answer the question the scale cannot: is my body changing in the direction I want?

Why is scale weight so misleading?

Because training moves two quantities at once. A member who adds three pounds of muscle while losing three pounds of fat has transformed their body composition, and their scale weight has not moved an ounce. This exact pattern is common in the first months of consistent strength training, and it is why we rescan monthly instead of weighing daily. The scale often reports last; the InBody reports what happened.

How does Alloy use the scans?

Your first scan happens during the Complimentary Starting Point Session and becomes your baseline. After that, monthly rescans track the trend, and your coach reviews each one with you: what moved, what did not, and what that means for your program or your nutrition. Programs here run on a structured 12-week cycle, so the scans land at natural checkpoints for adjusting the plan.

Is the scan intimidating?

Only in anticipation. It is a minute of standing still, fully clothed except shoes and socks, with no pinching, no photographs, and no commentary. The number is a starting point, not a verdict, and every member in the studio once stood on the same device wondering the same thing.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is it? Accurate enough to trust the trend, which is what matters. We compare your scans to your scans, under similar conditions each time.

How should I prep for a scan? Consistently. Same time of day when possible, normally hydrated, not straight off a workout.

Can I get a scan without joining? Your first one is part of the Starting Point Session, which is complimentary and comes with no obligation.
